Ambulance Victoria - Professional Standards & Behaviour Department - Fisher Leadership

Ambulance Victoria

Creation of the Professional Standards & Behaviour Department

The Project

Following Fisher Leadership’s recruitment and onboarding of 22 employees for the establishment of the Equality & Workplace Reform Division in 2022, and the search and appointment of Ms Jane Millar as the new CEO and Ms Samira Richards as the new Executive Director People & Culture, Fisher Leadership was selected to once again partner with Ambulance Victoria in April of 2023 to assist with the appointment of 11 employees for the new Professional Standards and Behaviours Department.

The positions to be appointed were:

  • Senior Manager Intake Response & Support
  • Senior Advisor Specialist Support & Engagement
  • Senior Case Manager (x3)
  • Senior Data Analyst
  • Senior Investigator (x2)
  • Case Manager (x3)

The Department was headed by Fleur Behrens, who was previously appointed by Fisher Leadership to the position of Director of Professional Standards and Behaviours.

The Process

Fisher Leadership engaged in a full and comprehensive briefing process with Ambulance Victoria, wherein the specific backgrounds of each position, along with the desired capabilities, experience and characteristics of ideal candidates were defined.

The project was split into two components to ensure the time and space for robust executive search and recruitment processes to be completed. Our reputation for superior candidate experience relies on a nuanced identification and attraction campaign. This includes candidate mapping, research, behaviour based interview exploration and a dedicated microsite built to provide comprehensive information to prospective candidates about the situational context, various roles on offer, timelines and selection process.

Fisher Leadership’s project team managed all candidate touch points including panel interviews for each of the roles as well as reference checking, required probity checks and offer negotiation.

The Outcome

Five months after the Fisher Leadership project team was briefed on the roles, all 11 positions have been appointed with some candidates having already commenced. The roles have been filled by talented people from a range of sectors, bringing diverse backgrounds and experience.

“It was important to me that we had a partner in building our new team that really understood and leaned into what we were trying to achieve. Sandra Kerr, Sally Trathen and Deborah Komesaroff and the whole team at Fisher Leadership took the time to understand our needs, that being person centred, trauma informed and also subject matter experts was what was needed for building our team and ensuring it’s success. I couldn’t be happier with the results, the team we recruited are amazing, they have the knowledge & expertise and most importantly the values and motivation for our objectives of creating a safer AV. Fisher Leadership understood that was what we needed and partnered with us to get there.”
