Available Interim: Vanessa Hannan

Vanessa Hannan is an experienced strategic marketing and communications professional with over 15 years’ experience and a demonstrated record of devising and managing end to end strategies.

Until recently Vanessa was the Director of Engagement and Marketing at St Michael’s Grammar School, and as a member of the Executive team, she contributed to the day-to-day operations of the school, in addition to leading the student recruitment, engagement and marketing teams. When Vanessa joined St Michael’s in 2016, a key mandate of her role was to transform the team to fulfil the broader remit to extended and strengthen brand connection and loyalty. Their role was pivotal to providing a positive first impression with families and potential students in addition to maintaining an active relationship as current and former members of the St Michael’s community.   Vanessa restructured the team, initiated best practice customer-centric evidence-based practices and actively involved the team in marketing and communication ideation activities in recognition of their role in the customer’s experience and journey. Vanessa established automation capabilities and streamlined systems, resulting in a 60% improvement in productivity, a reduction of 11 to 8 staff members, a 38% increase in student enquiries with an increased conversion rate of applications to enrolments of 20%. Additionally, calling on her media and public relations expertise Vanessa implemented an internal and external communication plan to deal with national media attention regarding an incident that threatened to harm the organization and the School community.

In her previous role as Director of Marketing and Communications at Kinross Wolaroi School Vanessa established a more sophisticated marketing and communications function. Transforming the role from a transactional to a strategic position, introducing market research, data analysis and customer insight methodologies. Vanessa delivered many initiatives, including developing the school’s digital communication channels, a full brand refresh, articulating and promoting the school’s value proposition and producing identity guidelines. She achieved growth in numerous areas including increasing enquiries by 50% one year into her tenure and growing new enrolments by 30%, resulting in a genuine student waitlist, a significant number for a regional school.

For 7 years Vanessa ran her own media company – Leva X Media where she partnered with diverse organisations across NSW in both the private and public sector developing and executing numerous strategic marketing and media communication plans and producing supporting collateral.

It was in this capacity that Vanessa was asked to join Kinross after producing a television commercial for the school.

From 1991-2002, Vanessa was the User Experience Architect at Dimension Data, as the key conduit between customer and clients such as Foxtel, in the production of digital platforms. Prior to this position, Vanessa held several roles in the media industry as a Producer of various television series. Vanessa is articulate and highly consultative in her approach, with a considered and pragmatic management style. Displaying evidence-based decision-making methodologies, Vanessa has the demonstrable capability to develop strategies and engagement plans and to foster an inclusive culture. Her commercial background in the television industry and within digital marketing and communication agencies enhances the depth of media and communications experience.
