Dr Rick Ede is Chief Executive Officer at the Chisholm Institute

Dr Rick Ede has been appointed Chief Executive Officer at the Chisholm Institute.  As the previous Chief Executive of Unitec Institute of Technology and Metro Group chairperson, Rick has been responsible for significant transformation to the organisation, committing Unitec to its aspiration of being a world-class, world-scale Institute of Technology that is an agent of economic, social and environmental transformation.  Rick joined Unitec in April 2008 and helped refocus the organisation towards being an institution that delivers world-class vocational and applied professional education and training built on a foundation of work-integrated learning.  In addition, their ability to reinvest in people and facilities has been significantly boosted, along with an increased commitment to health, safety and environment.  Rick has been instrumental in fostering community and industry engagement.  Under his leadership, innovative collaborations have seen IBM opening their only New Zealand-based delivery centre on campus, bringing employment opportunities for students with major national and international companies and has seen the development, in conjunction with Japan’s NICT, of NZ’s only cyber-security research laboratory.

Rick has a diverse background as an educator, researcher and strategic leader.  In 2000, he joined Australia’s national research organisation, the CSIRO. After spending some time as Chief of CSIRO’s Forestry and Forest Products Division, he was appointed CSIRO’s general manager of client and partner relationships.  Rick has also provided consultancy services to industry and educational organisations in Asia and North America.  He is an alumnus of the London Business School, a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Chairperson of the Metro Group – comprising the six major Institutes of Technology in New Zealand who work collaboratively to drive economic performance through efficient and effective education provision.
