IPAA Awards Night Showcases Innovation in the Public Sector

Last week, we were proud to sponsor the IPAA Victoria Leadership in the Public Sector Awards. The ceremony kicked off with a wonderful buzz throughout Deakin Edge at Federation Square. As the sponsor of the Leading Employer Award, Fisher Leadership was thrilled to see so many truly innovative programs, people and organisations celebrated. Now in their 11th year, the Awards have grown in reputation and saw the highest number of nominations this year, attracting over 90 nominees across 8 categories. Some of the newer categories include the fields of innovative regulation, robust governance, leading employers and recognising initiatives that advance Aboriginal self-determination.

 

In calling attention to these public pioneers serving to make life better ‘not for some Victorians, but all Victorians” we can see the adoption of new technologies, new ideas and current cultural sentiment being reflected in public projects. It was highly engaging and very exciting to hear about some of the frontier initiatives underway. The highlights for us included the incredible #deadlyquestions campaign by the Department of Premier and Cabinet (Vic) that encourages all Australians to access Indigenous knowledge, facilitated by directly connecting the public to Indigenous Australian ‘champions’ to gain a better understanding of Aboriginal culture.

 

 

We also got excited about the human-centred service delivery of the next-generation High Capacity Metro Trains won by Transport for Victoria. These trains are capable of carrying 1100 passengers – that’s 20 per cent more than any other train on the network! As well, the “Bigger trains for a Better Melbourne’ campaign promises they will be smoother, quieter, more comfortable and with improved accessibility in seating and standing areas.

 

Finally, our sponsored Leading Employer Award went to Westernport Water for their approach to creating an inclusive, highly engaged workforce – diversity in all its forms being a cause that is close to our heart and embedded in the Fisher Leadership Executive Search DNA. Thanks to our own David Baber for a great presentation introducing mixtocracy and gigexecutive to our vernacular and a big congratulations to everyone involved!
