John Bridgfoot is the new Director Mallee Area at the Department of Health and Human Services (VIC). Most recently, John ran his own private investment firm and prior to this he spent over 20 years in health and human services roles in Victoria and then 15 years in commercial retail. In retail he began as an owner operator in 1999 and was appointed Chair of the member-owned company in 2004. John’s most recent role in health and human services was as State Manager, Primary Care and Rural Health at the Department of Health & Human Services (VIC) from 1995 until 1998. In this role John was responsible for the policy, program development and state-wide delivery of government service targets for the Community Health Centres, Women’s Health and Primary Health Care programs in Victoria. Previously, John was Regional Acute Health Manager, Loddon Mallee Region where he consulted extensively with community stakeholders to negotiate the closure of four small acute hospitals and the substitution of more appropriate primary and community health services and aged care services in those communities. From 1989 to 1993, John was Regional Director, Loddon Mallee Region for the Department of Human Services (VIC) where he managed a regional welfare service delivery organisation with 14 major sites, 485 employees and an annual operating budget of $43m.

Earlier in his career, John held key roles within DHS including State Manager, Juvenile Corrections and Institutional Services; Chief Executive, Malmsbury Youth Training and Detention Facility; Social Administrator Officer, Loddon Mallee region and Community Development Officer, Goulbourn Region.
