Mr Keith Newman has been appointed as Deputy Principal with Christ Church Grammar School

Keith is a passionate educator with over 20 years’ experience with proven leadership and management in a variety of educational settings.  Keith is also experienced in curriculum development, assessment and reporting as well as a strong understanding of current education practice as it relates to student learning and pastoral care.  Keith currently holds the position of Dean of Early Years, Kostka Hall with Xavier College.  As part of the Campus Leadership team, Keith is responsible for the academic, pastoral, spiritual and co-curricular programs provided at the Kostka Hall site for Kindergarten to Year 4. Kostka Hall delivers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) and Keith has worked closely with Deakin University in supporting their connection to the PYP.  With a view to providing a depth of understanding to the programme, Keith is a member of the Advisory Board for the Deakin Bachelor of Education with a focus on contributing to the relevance and currency of the course. 

Prior to joining Xavier, Keith held a contract teaching position at Haileybury College, initially teaching the Year 3 cohort before moving to a Prep class in his second year with the College.  With a remit to oversee curriculum, planning and assessment of his students, Keith delivered a high standard of teaching based on a variety of teaching and learning approaches that supported the values and strategies of the College.  Between 2012 and 2015 Keith taught year 3 and year 5 at Bialik College.  Keith also held the position of Student Leadership Coordinator with responsibility for coordinating, leading and managing the Year 5 leadership program.  Through the College’s links with Harvard University, Keith developed his knowledge, understanding and application of the Cultures of Thinking.  During this time he also had the opportunity to complete a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Management degree at La Trobe University and a Master of Business Administration. Earlier, Keith was the Head of the Junior School at Mowbray College.  Reporting to the Principal he was involved in the future planning and managing of significant aspects of the daily life of the School.  As Head of Junior Keith was also responsible to deliver the IB Primary Years Program, the teaching and learning program as well as the student welfare program.
