Rowan McRae is the new Executive Director Civil Justice, Access and Equity at Victoria Legal Aid
Rowan McRae is the new Executive Director Civil Justice, Access and Equity at Victoria Legal Aid. Rowan brings over 12 years’ experience working in public law. She was previously acting in the Executive Director, Civil Justice, Access and Equity position with a substantive role as Program Manager, Equality Law Program. In her substantive role she has led and managed a diverse team of specialist lawyers, working collaboratively across the organisation and with key stakeholders to carry out change and innovative development of the Equality Law Program, whilst engaging in high level advocacy and complex case work. Prior to this Rowan was a Senior Lawyer at VLA, providing high quality legal services including duty lawyer services, casework and advice services in civil law matters with a focus on discrimination, equality and human rights law. Before VLA, Rowan was employed at the VEOHRC as Senior Legal Advisor, undertaking equal opportunity and human rights case work on behalf of the Commission and providing legal advice to the Commissioner. Earlier positions in Rowan’s career saw her consulting for the International Finance Corporation in Washington DC and prior to that in Canberra as Principal/Senior Legal Officer, providing advice on international and constitutional law to the Attorney General and Federal Government Departments.
