The Brief

Monash University sought an outstanding HR leader to support the development and delivery of workforce planning and talent acquisition strategies, including oversight of preferred suppliers of recruitment services, jobs for students and execution of a range of diversity and inclusion strategies. Leading a community of practice, the GM would drive innovative strategies to attract world-class academic and professional talent, including pipelining activities, while also managing key senior relationships across the University and providing expert and specialist advice.​

Solution Building​

Research and mapping covered high calibre potential candidates with relevant experience in large and complex organisations. Personal and professional networks were also engaged to ascertain interest and referrals and an online advertising campaign was undertaken.

An informative online candidate portal offered detailed information on the University, its strategy and the preferred candidate profile.​

The longlist included candidates with existing university experience, alongside those with a background in talent acquisition in the technology, financial services and mining sectors, plus candidates from large consulting firms. Many candidates also brought generalist HR experience.​​​

The Outcome​

Four candidates were selected for interview, including two candidates with recent experience in the higher education sector. Following detailed referencing, Fiona Kyriacou was selected as the successful candidate, bringing 20 years’ experience in talent acquisition across the infrastructure and professional services sectors, including leadership of geographically dispersed teams.​
