Mark Bazzacco is Chief Research Services at Defence Science and Technology Group

Reporting directly to Australia’s Chief Defence Scientist, the Chief Research Services has a key role in leading a significant workforce of business professionals, engineers, technicians and computer scientists in the delivery of a wide range of highly specialised and unique research capability and innovative solutions which provide the advanced research platforms for Defence and the wider defence science and technology ecosystem.

Bringing significant strengths in operational leadership and strategy, Mark Bazzacco joined DSTG from CSIRO, where he reported directly to the CEO and led strategy, performance, market insights, portfolio management and investment functions, including staff engagement and support for strategic direction and key reporting.  Mark successfully led the business case development and endorsement for the organisation’s digital and missions transformation program, which included plans to refocus part of the research portfolio into fewer, larger, cross-organisational mission oriented research programs.

With board experience at Science and Technology Australia, Mark held earlier leadership roles at the University of Canberra and Airservices Australia.  He holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Master in Business Administration, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is currently completing a PhD.
