Ms. Kate Millar has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer with Birdlife Australia. In this position, Kate will lead 120 staff in a science-based organisation supported by more than 330,000 members, supporters, volunteers and donors. In collaboration with other conservation organisations and working with governments, academic institutions, corporations, land managers and local communities to recover threatened birds and restore local environments.

Kate possesses expertise in executive leadership, and financial and stakeholder management. She has a strong track record of successfully achieving results, providing strategic advice at Board level, experience in organisational governance including oversight of Finance and Audit, Risk and Compliance Committees, and has efficiently led teams through organisational change with a focus on staff wellbeing and organisational performance.

In Kate’s previous role as the Executive Director at Emergency Management Victoria, Kate provided high level and strategic policy and operational advice to the Minister, Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Emergency Management Commissioner. She led the establishment of a dedicated Recovery Entity for Victoria. Key achievements include Cabinet approval of the design of Emergency Recovery Victoria and the strategic plan to strengthen the COVID19 food and material aid relief system.
