The University of Canterbury (UC) has established a new academic strategic initiative, Kia Tōpū, which will develop UC’s capability in research and teaching to support the sustainable production, efficient processing and secure distribution of healthy food. With a vision to create an international centre of excellence and IP generation, the Kia Tōpū strategic initiative aims to shape the global narrative on the future of food.
Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Academic, the inaugural Academic Programme Director will be the strategic leader responsible for the development, functioning, direction and reputation of the academic qualifications, programmes and courses in Kia Tōpū. The key outcome will be to create programmes which attract students of both graduate levels from the domestic and international markets and to provide employable graduates to the sector.
With a PhD in a relevant field, you will be an internationally recognised academic at least at Senior Lecturer level, able to demonstrate an outstanding research portfolio in either Food Innovation, Food Equity and Food Intelligence. As this is a newly established position, you will be a big picture thinker, committed to making a difference, with a proven track record of building and fostering innovative and contemporary teaching programmes across academic disciplines organisation-wide. Experience with flexible and blended learning modes of delivery will be preferable.
With an inspiring collegial and unifying leadership style, you will harvest synergies between ongoing activities at UC to create programmes which are at the forefront of teaching across the disciplines of the future of food.  Your strong interpersonal skills and energetic style will support engagement with industry and other stakeholders to create new programme opportunities. A willingness to engage in the bi-cultural aspects of the University is important.
