The Council of the Australian College of Optometry (ACO) seeks an ambitious and capable leader to pursue the strategic objectives of the College within changing landscapes and environments.  This is a unique and important opportunity to lead a national organisation committed to its vision of achieving world leading eye health outcomes for all.
The ACO is governed by a Council, which acts as its board of governance; the majority of Councillors are optometrists elected by ACO members, only one of whom is in fulltime clinical practice. The key to success for the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be to bring strategic governance skills to the position and be a visionary leader for the future of public eye health.
With outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, the successful candidate will be an experienced leader with a proven ability to advocate diplomatically, build effective partnerships and foster a collaborative culture.  Experience in corporate governance and operational leadership will be essential, with strong business acumen, financial stewardship, an innovative outlook and a commitment to accountability and transparency.  A track record in building and leading a high performing team and values-based culture will be key to success.  The appointee will hold relevant tertiary qualifications.  An existing knowledge of the optometry landscape will be highly regarded, but is not essential.
The Organisation
The Australian College of Optometry is a member network of metropolitan clinics and private practices in regional Victoria, providing eye care to over 70,000 Victorians each year.  The only organisation in Australia specialising in each of the areas of public health optometry, vision research and optometry student and professional education, the ACO is committed to improving the eye health and wellbeing of Australian communities through innovation, partnership and leadership.  It is dedicated to providing accessible and affordable eye care and advancing the profession through world-class research and education.
