  • Highly energised and empowered team, with a culture that is underpinned by a collegiate team spirit
  • Newly created senior opportunity due to the progression in the field of cell and gene therapy

The Position

BioCurate is a bold, collaborative venture, dedicated to translating Australian medical research and delivering health and economic benefits to the world. The team work closely with the shareholder universities and directly with researchers to provide funding and industry-based drug development expertise to generate commercial interest in selected research programs for future impactful outcomes. With increased academic and industry focus in the area of Cell and Gene Therapy due to significant progression in the field, the role of Associate Director or Director, Cell and Gene Therapy has emerged to manage BioCurate’s portfolio of Cell and Gene Therapy projects.

Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director of R&D, the role will actively develop and manage the current projects within the portfolio that BioCurate has invested in, and lead the assessment, evaluation, and selection of new project opportunities, with a specific focus on Cell and Gene Therapy.

Successful outcomes in the role will be driven through applying a strong track record and technical expertise derived from academia and industry concerning the inception, development, leadership, and management of projects where Cell and Gene Therapy is the preferred therapeutic modality. It is expected that the role will be integral to driving the progression of multiple programs at varying stages of maturity, which cover multiple therapeutic indications. The role also requires an ability to work in a dynamic, flexible, and matrixed work environment, strong personal initiative and motivation, management of project timelines and budgets, and developing and maintaining relationships with key project stakeholders such as academic research teams, University BD/technology transfer offices (TTO), contract research organizations (CROs), and consultants.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or other relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g., MD) in a relevant scientific/medical discipline and a minimum of 5 years of research and development experience (in both academia and industry) in Cell and Gene Therapy. Cell Therapy experience is a must with Gene Therapy experience desirable.  The successful candidate will also have a track record in the successful development and execution of Cell and Gene Therapy-based programs spanning from project inception to IND-enabling studies, with a working knowledge of later development stages, particularly CMC and toxicology, and Phase 1 clinical trials.

This is a unique opportunity to not only support the successful execution and growth of BioCurate’s project portfolio, but also grow Victoria and Australia’s biotechnology sector to achieve successful commercial outcomes.
