Description

Victoria Police is seeking expressions of interest for two independent member vacancies on its Audit and Risk Committee.

Victoria Police is headed by the Chief Commissioner of Police Shane Patton APM and is part of the broader Department of Justice and Community Safety portfolio.

Victoria Police recognises risk management as an integral part of organisational culture, policies, systems, and processes required to ensure community safety.

Operating under the Financial Management Act 1994, the Audit and Risk Committee provides independent assurance and assistance to the Chief Commissioner of Police in relation to risk, the control and compliance framework, and external accountability responsibilities.

The Committee’s accountabilities include independently reviewing and assessing the organisation’s systems and controls for financial management, performance and sustainability, and risk management, via mechanisms including internal audit, external audit and review, compliance and internal controls. In addition, the Committee maintains communication with external auditors and considers recommendations from internal and external auditors, as well as statutory bodies..

Current Vacancies

The term of appointment/s aims to commence from 29 May 2024 for an initial period of three years.

The Audit and Risk Committee meets every three months (i.e., four times per year), as well as consideration of matters out-of-session and an additional meeting in August to sign off the annual financial statements and compliance attestation. All meetings are conducted within business hours and includes a Secretariat to provide administration support.

Skills, knowledge, and experience are particularly sought for:

  • Accounting
  • Strategic finance
  • Cybersecurity
  • Digital technology transformation

Previous board or committee experience is expected, this includes applying and evaluating risk management frameworks in a complex environment; and a working knowledge or understanding of public sector administration would be desirable.

Essential personal attributes include integrity, objectivity, accountability, honesty, and openness, along with independence of judgement.

Please note that a criminal record check and declaration of private interest must be completed prior to appointment of independent members. Other additional checks may also be required.
