The Position
Moreland Affordable Housing (MAH) is seeking to appoint a new member to its existing Board of Directors. Applications are sought from candidates with a legal background and experience in Governance for not-for-profit organisations.
In addition to specialist skills, ideally the applicant should possess some of the following expertise and experience:

  • Public, Social and Community Housing
  • Partnership development – industry and funding
  • Understanding of Government Housing policy
  • Knowledge/experience of leveraging private development capital for social ends.

 
The ideal candidate will have the relevant skills and experience and have a strong interest in improving access for all to affordable and secure housing. The successful candidate will have legal qualifications and experience in forming, negotiating and navigating conglomerate/hybrid entities.
Working in a constructive relationship with other Board Members, you will establish MAH as an organisation that is resolute in its goal while working through multiple and complex challenges. Appointed for a term of three years, the Board Directors are expected to participate in monthly board meetings with some time required for preparation outside of these meetings. This is a pro-bono appointment.
The board consists of seven Directors. As per constitutional arrangements, this position is appointed by way of a Council resolution, so the final appointment is subject to approval by Council.
 
The Organisation
Moreland Affordable Housing Ltd is a company established by Moreland City Council (MCC) in November 2018 to address the lack of secure and affordable housing available to residents across the municipality.
The purpose of MAH is to provide relief to persons who are homeless or whose life circumstances render them vulnerable to loss of affordable and secure housing. Through partnering with Registered Housing Associations, MAH will seek to attract funding for investment in affordable housing developments through initiatives such as the Victorian State Government’s recently announced Big Housing Build Program. MAH currently has a partnership with Haven; Home Safe for the delivery of affordable housing in the City of Moreland.
