The Audit & Risk Committee of the Red Cross plays a crucial role in assisting the Board fulfil its governance roles and responsibilities with regard to audit and risk.
The Board Member will be responsible for contributing to the appropriate strategic direction for the Red Cross, as well as for the achievement of the highest standards of governance including ensuring the financial viability, solvency and sustainability of the organisation.
Assuming the role of Chair, Audit & Risk Committee, this Board Member will be one of three office bearers and will have responsibility for establishing and maintaining a contemporary and effective audit and risk governance approach for the organisation.
The Chair will recommend to the Board approval of the financial statements in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and will lead the Committee in overseeing the Society’s systems of risk management and internal controls.
Ideally possessing membership of CA and/or CPA as well as the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Board Member will have current experience and an exemplary background in finance, accounting and audit. A demonstrated commitment to applying principles of good governance will be essential.
As a contemporary thinker who has a high level of emotional intelligence, the new Board Member will be naturally collaborative and collegiate and will be a good educator and a passionate influencer. Further, s/he will have extensive experience in governance, strategic risk management and/or operations, and will be equipped to carry out the statutory duties of a Board Member of a registered charity under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012.
Red Cross Board Members are volunteers who do not receive payment for their services but do receive reimbursement for expenses incurred through their work for the Red Cross.
