The position

Board members will need to have a range of expertise that align to category appointments for persons with disability, for registered disability workers and for members who are not and have not been registered disability workers. Appointees will have board or committee experience that demonstrates they share their specialist knowledge, work well and proactively with others, and exhibit the values and behaviours expected in the Victorian Public Sector.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the activities undertaken by this regulator. The roles are remunerated and are appointed for terms of 18-months or 3-years.

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that government boards and committees reflect the composition of the Victorian community. In addition to people with disability, applications are welcome from women, regional Victorians, Aboriginal people, young people and people from LGBTIQ+ and Victoria’s culturally diverse communities.  The selection and remuneration of appointees is in accordance with the Victorian Government’s Appointment and remuneration guidelines for Victorian government boards statutory bodies and advisory committees.

The organisation

The Disability Worker Registration Board of Victoria is established under the Disability Service Safeguards Act 2018.  The Board conducts a range of critical activities regulating registered disability workers. The Board works with the Victorian Disability Worker Commissioner (who regulates unregistered workers) and the Victorian Disability Worker Commission (who supports both the Board and Commissioner) in implementing the Disability Worker Regulation Scheme.

The Board, the Commissioner and the Commission work together to regulate registered and unregistered disability workers in Victoria. As a member of the Board, you will be responsible for setting standards for the registration of disability workers and their practice. Based on legislative criteria and guidelines around registration of disability workers, you will also assess applicants and probity matters, oversee the management of complaints and monitor compliance with registration and practice standards by registered disability workers.

Board members will contribute to increasing registrations, disability workforce planning and system improvement by collecting data and maintaining publicly accessible registers, which will enable the public to check the registration status and qualifications of disability workers.
