The Chair of Digital Innovation (IoT – Internet of Things) leads JCU’s research partnership with Optus in Digital Innovation. The Chair will foster linkages between JCU and Optus, industry and government through research and innovation that will build and reshape industries in northern Australia, capitalising on the opportunities afforded by the rapid evolution of digital technologies – the so-called fourth industrial revolution.
Playing a significant leadership role in the JCU-Optus research partnership in digital innovation, the Chair will demonstrate high-level accomplishments in research in IoT, with an industry focus.  Significant experience and expertise in engagement with industry and other external stakeholders and the development of research-based solutions to industry problems is a critical focus of the role.  This position plays a key leadership role in supporting and developing JCU’s growing capabilities in digital technology in partnership with Optus.
With a doctoral qualification, the ideal candidate will bring an internationally competitive track record in research and innovation in aspects of IoT or closely related disciplines.  Additionally, a record of delivering to a range of application domains relevant to northern Australia including agriculture, energy, business, health, and ‘smart city’ design will be key.  With functional elements of the position including research, industry engagement and research education, outstanding communication and interpersonal skills will be essential.
