The Position

The ACT Health Directorate is seeking to appoint a new Chief Allied Health Officer (CAHO), within The Office of Professional Leadership (OPLE). The CAHO will form part of a team of expert clinicians who will be pivotal in the reform agenda of the ACT Health Directorate. It is an exciting opportunity to work with colleagues across the ACT toward new models of care that improve outcomes for the population. The CAHO will be pivotal in the delivery of the workforce strategy for ACT and will engage nationally on this topic across all clinical professions.

Reporting into the Deputy Director – General, Policy and Transformation, the CAHO will advocate for Allied Health on a range of issues and provide insights and advice to all levels of government on emerging trends, clinical reform issues and strategic workforce initiatives. The CAHO will support opportunities for the advancement of Allied Health through scholarships, research and inspiring models of care that take advantage of a range of contemporary initiatives including extended scope practitioners.

To be successful in this role, the appointee will be a Senior Allied Health clinician with a strong understanding of the public health system. As a true values-led leader, the appointee will work towards improving health outcomes for the population. With a portfolio remit that requires compelling engagement and collaboration skills, the appointee will demonstrate strong political acumen to establish and maintain effective relationships with relevant stakeholders. The appointee will be a natural partner and credible leader across Allied Health professions. It is a requirement to hold a tertiary qualification in an allied health discipline with eligibility for peak professional body registration or unconditional AHPRA registration.

The Office of Professional Leadership (OPLE) strives to inspire the whole health system toward excellence. They do this by leading teams to collaborate across the ACT and region to improve health care, advocating for the clinical workforce into the future and delivering reform and improvement in the system that no one else can do.
