  • Drive transformational change
  • Renowned influential international social justice organisation

The Position
The Board of Oxfam Australia is seeking to appoint an outstanding values-driven Chief Executive (CE) to lead one of Australia’s top ten charities into a sustainable future of growth and innovation following the retirement in August 2019, of highly successful CE, Dr Helen Szoke AO.
Reporting to the Board, the incoming CE will steer the organisation through the delivery of a new business model, and provide visionary leadership to drive performance in all aspects of Oxfam’s charter. With an opportunity to lead an organisation of over 300 people with over 100,000 volunteer Australians, the Chief Executive is accountable for the achievement of the organisation’s strategic objectives, goals and continued success.
You will be an experienced influential leader, strong decision-maker and transformational change agent.  You will have a track record in leading a complex services-based organisation and working with a Board. You will bring an inherent desire to tackle large scale and big picture community challenges, combining this with collaborative relationships and networks across multiple stakeholders.  A passion for philanthropy and a highly innovative approach to fund-raising are required, matched with strong commercial acumen. An understanding of government, social justice, international development, and the not-for-profit sectors will be an advantage.
The Organisation
Oxfam Australia believes all lives are equal and no-one should live in poverty. Together we are on the ground, empowering communities to tackle poverty. Oxfam Australia brokers and facilitates relationships within and outside of Australia. As an independent, not-for-profit, secular, community-based aid and development organisation, Oxfam Australia’s work comprises long-term development programs, responding to humanitarian emergencies, and campaigning to improve the lives of communities around the world. Oxfam Australia has ambitious plans for growing its impact, effectiveness and capacity.  This represents an exciting time to join and lead this organisation.
Oxfam is committed to preventing any type of unwanted behaviour at work including sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse, lack of integrity and financial misconduct; and committed to promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults. Oxfam expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment through our code of conduct. We place a high priority on ensuring that only those who share and demonstrate our values are recruited to work for us.  Therefore, all successful applicants will be required to sign Oxfam Employee Code of Conduct, Oxfam Australia’s Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct and adhere to Oxfam Australia’s Child Safeguarding Policy.
