The Position

Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research seeks to appoint a strategic, collaborative and talented executive to the role of Chief Executive Officer. Building on the legacy of partnership and impact, the CEO will lead commercial and operational outcomes to support world class insights and discoveries to radically transform better health outcomes for the community.

Working in a collaborative partnership with the Institute Director, Professor Les Bokey, the CEO will champion strategic, operational and commercial excellence, to continue the attraction of research groups, external partnerships, funding opportunities and expansion of the Institute. This will include the ongoing development of partnerships with industry, start-ups, universities, hospitals and the local healthcare community to support the rapid growth and network of medical research centres of excellence.

The CEO will be visionary and future focused with a contemporary and collegiate style. Driving a culture of commitment, collaboration, innovation and impact, the CEO will be an experienced senior executive with a strong strategic and commercial lens. With the ability to build key relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, both internally and externally, the CEO will demonstrate the gravitas and political nous necessary to win hearts and minds. The CEO will have a deep connection to the core values that underpin the work of the Institute and staff, that drives the achievement of breakthrough medical research transforming community wellbeing locally and globally.

Key attributes that will contribute to the success of this role will include exceptional communication and influencing skills, commitment, passion and drive to make a difference in the sector. Experience from commercial environments leading large portfolios, business units or organisations, including pharmaceutical, medical devices, private health/insurance or biotechnology will be highly regarded.

The Organisation

The Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research conducts world leading and ground-breaking medical research, developing treatments from the latest breakthroughs and translating them into real-world treatments in real time. Founded with the generosity of two great Australian philanthropists, the institute operates as a unique partnership between Liverpool Hospital, Southwestern Sydney LHD, University of New South Wales and Western Sydney University.

Ingham Institute of Medical Research has grown significantly since its inception in 2012. Housed in a state of the art, purpose-built research facility at the Liverpool Hospital campus, the Institute is currently under expansion and by 2025 will be a multi-centred Institute across three campuses.
