The Position 

Council is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead our world-renowned global city. The CEO will bring strong and dynamic leadership to effectively deliver on Council Plan outcomes and large-scale, high-profile projects that will benefit current and future generations. This will be delivered by leading a highly capable executive team and empowering a large, diverse and committed workforce.

As the holder of one of the most influential and enviable roles in local government in Australia, the CEO will champion innovation and collaborative community and stakeholder engagement to ensure that the organisation remains at the forefront of the sector and that the community is well poised for the future.

Working in partnership with committed and forward-thinking Councillors, the CEO will provide strategic advice and guidance on policy matters, issues and proposals affecting the future development and positioning of Melbourne. Success in this role requires a strong track record of achievement at CEO or significant senior executive level in a large, complex, multi-disciplinary organisation, with a strong understanding of the workings of government.

The CEO will demonstrate inspiring leadership that fosters an organisational culture of integrity, trust, empowerment, achievement, collaboration and transparency. Superior stakeholder engagement, business acumen and people leadership are critical competencies for this position, along with a strong stewardship ethos that always has community needs at its core.
