The Position

The Board of Berry Street is recruiting a new Chief Executive Officer to grow and further evolve the organisation.  Since its establishment in 1877, Berry Street’s staff, supporters and volunteers have played a major role in initiating and furthering improvements in the lives of vulnerable children and families in Victoria and Australia. Having enjoyed dynamic growth over the last decade, the organisation is now poised to embrace the next major phase of its development. To achieve this, the Board is seeking to engage an experienced, motivated and skilled individual to lead Berry Street.

In pursuing this goal, the CEO will be responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organisation according to the strategic direction set by the Board. The Chief Executive Officer will provide leadership, direction and guidance for the organisation’s activities and programmes, which will include representing the organisation to funders, donors, policy stakeholders, statutory and regulatory bodies, to clients and their families, and to the public.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional CEO or senior executive, with proven experience in driving operational excellence across a multi-disciplinary and diverse organisation. With demonstrated experience in driving  sustainable growth and service quality in a large, complex organisation, the appointee will balance commerciality with  relationship management and stakeholder sensitivity.  Key capabilities for success will include a strong strategic mindset, exceptional communication and influencing skills, and a commitment to all stakeholders connected to Berry Street. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong alignment to the values and purpose of the organisation and will strive to maintain a focus on people and innovation to drive better outcomes for service users.

The Organisation

Berry Street believes that children, young people and families should be safe, thriving and hopeful. With a vision to courageously change lives and reimagine service systems,  Berry Street is working to shift  service systems so that children and families get help as soon as they need it, and victim–survivors of family violence get the support they need to recover.

Berry Street wants to see fewer children in out-of-home care and more children safe with families who have been equipped to nurture and support them. Berry Street aspires to see vulnerable learners connected to appropriate education so they can reach their potential in life, as well as less family violence in our communities and more support for victim-survivors to recover.
