The Position
Driving the ongoing success of the City of Whitehorse requires a dynamic values-based leader who will bring energy and focus to its forward-looking long-term strategic plans. Building on the Council’s current strong performance, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will ensure quality service provision and deliver innovation to a diverse community experiencing growth and high levels of investment in infrastructure and development.
Working under the guidance of dedicated and progressive Councillors, the CEO leads an executive management team responsible for developing and delivering the vision of a healthy, vibrant, prosperous and sustainable community. The CEO will embed a culture of positive engagement, high performance and robust governance that supports continuous improvement.
The successful CEO appointee will demonstrate a proven track record of positively leading service delivery in the public or private sectors. With proven vision and strategic execution, high people engagement capability and superior financial and commercial acumen; the ideal candidate will bring knowledge of economic, social and governance matters relating to local government and its constituents. Key to success will be the capacity for superior internal and external relationship building. Appropriate tertiary qualifications relevant to this role are desirable.
Whitehorse City Council
The City of Whitehorse is ideally located 15 kilometres east of Melbourne’s CBD in an eclectic and rapidly changing local government area, characterised by tree-lined residential streets, an abundance of parks and a vibrant and rapidly developing high rise commercial and residential activity centre.
It serves a large population of 170,000, with a budget of around $200m, assets under management of $3.8b, and a staff of over 1300 who provide a range of essential community services. Continued population growth and significant private and public inbound investment presents a range of new opportunities and challenges to ensure net community benefit.
