  • Shape the future of school education across NSW
  • Position NESA as a world-leading statutory authority
  • Drive a progressive and contemporary change agenda

The Position
The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) seeks to appoint a future-focussed and engaging leader to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to influence and support school education outcomes across one of the world’s largest education jurisdictions.
Reporting to the Minister and the Board, the CEO is accountable for the strategic leadership of NESA, championing its mission to support teachers and schools to offer all children and young people a high-quality education that enables them to fulfil their potential.  Leading the state’s strategic and operational approach to accreditation of teachers, regulation of schools, curriculum and state-wide examinations, the CEO will work closely with and through key stakeholders across the government, Catholic and independent school sectors and be highly cognisant of the challenges and opportunities facing the system.
An outstanding leader, with an exceptional understanding of the current education environment and sensitivity to the needs of schools and teachers, the successful candidate will possess executive experience in a highly complex operating environment, be highly adept at leading strategic and operational change processes and be able to adapt to fluid and continually evolving operational contexts. With the ability to drive strategic decision-making and the capacity to build and foster networks and provide authoritative advice to Ministers and the Board, the CEO will have highly developed communication, stakeholder management, governance and engagement skills, with the capability to set and communicate the future vision for NESA.
The Organisation
NESA replaced the Board of Studies, Teaching and Education Standards NSW in January 2017.  It sets and monitors quality teaching, learning, assessment and school standards, including responsibility across government, Catholic and independent schools state-wide.
NESA provides a forum for collaboration on key educational matters in NSW and works in partnership with students, parents, teachers, principals, and schools from the government, Catholic and independent sectors and other stakeholders to identify issues and produce policy, regulation, and services that support teaching practice and student learning, and the attainment of high education standards in NSW.
