The Position
The Board of MAV seeks to appoint a highly talented and driven CEO to commence in 2018 to replace its long-serving and widely-respected CEO. The incoming CEO will lead the organisation into its next phase of growth and assume responsibility for continuing to advance the local government sector in Victoria.
Reporting to a Board comprised of Councillors from across the state, the CEO will implement the strategic work plan in line with the Association’s vision and values. Maintaining a strong public profile, the CEO oversees a high level program of advocacy, sector development and promotion activities on behalf of member Councils in addition to highly valuable insurance, procurement and training programs.
The successful candidate will be a contemporary leader with a track record of leading complex organisations. With excellent knowledge of Local and State Government in Victoria and strong networks within, you will be astute in navigating this environment. Equipped with an appreciation for the role of local government and for member-based organisations, you will have superior negotiation skills, highly developed advocacy skills and exceptional communication skills. This is a prime opportunity for a dynamic leader to further develop a focused peak body to be positioned for a vibrant future. Appropriate Tertiary qualifications relevant to this role are required.
About MAV
MAV is the legislated peak body for the local government sector in Victoria. The Victorian Parliament passed the Municipal Association Act in 1907, officially recognising the MAV as the voice of local government in the state.
MAV is a membership organisation, accountable to its constituent members through State Council and an elected Board. With a staff of more than 50, MAV supports councils through a range of advocacy, insurance, procurement and training services. These services aim to improve efficiency and productivity of councils, and promote the value of local government to a wide group of stakeholders.
