  • Bring confident leadership to the Shire’s administration
  • Facilitate development of a new strategic plan
  • Genuinely engage a vibrant and diverse community

The Position
This is an important time to be leading the South Gippsland Shire Council by working constructively together with the local community and other stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes. Administrators have been appointed until October 2021 to strengthen the organisation, build stability and improve trust and confidence. Council’s financial position continues to remain sound.
Initially reporting to three highly committed Administrators, the CEO will work to motivate and develop an organisation of around 250 staff by providing visionary leadership and best practice governance. Strengthening economic growth and prosperity is a key objective balanced with sensible and sustainable development. Success will come by working strategically with a range of stakeholders to drive collaborate relationships and build positive and sustainable community outcomes.
The incoming CEO will have a track record of values driven, adaptable leadership and the ability to shape positive outcomes through collaboration. You will thrive working closely with community and stakeholders and bring a clear way of thinking and articulating strategy to the Shire. Superior communication skills are required along with strong commercial and governance capability. Previous achievement in local government or a community service environment is highly desirable. Tertiary qualifications are expected for this senior role.
The position is based in Leongatha, Victoria.
The Shire
The Shire is a rural, residential and tourist area. It encompasses 3,308 square kilometres, including extensive coastal areas and the spectacular Wilsons Promontory National Park.
Much of the rural area is used for forestry and agriculture; with dairy, beef, sheep, and food produce being the main agricultural pursuits.
Fishing, viticulture and tourism are also important industries that contribute economic diversity to the region.
