The Position
The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) is committed to ensuring a better future for Aboriginal people by working for the return of culturally significant and economically viable land, pursuing cultural, social and economic independence for Aboriginal people in NSW.
The Council of the NSWALC seeks to appoint an Aboriginal person passionate about land rights as the Chief Executive Officer.  The position is responsible for the operation of the NSWALC organisation and for ensuring the implementation of the decisions of Council. Leading the day-to-day management of the Council’s affairs, the CEO will work in partnership with the Council to manage an operating budget of $69 million and an investment fund of $670 million.
Success in the role requires proven and inspiring executive leadership that draws on commercially orientated experience in broad ranging, large, complex community environments.  You will have an understanding of the history of Land Rights in NSW and an appreciation of the ALRA and the machinations of legislation and legislative change (including provisions within the ALRA and Aboriginal Land Rights Regulation (2020)).

NSWALC head office has traditionally been located in Parramatta and supports a hybrid work model.

The Organisation
The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC), established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW) (ALRA), is a self-funding statutory authority responsible for protecting and promoting the rights and interests of Aboriginal people in NSW. The Aboriginal Land Council network in NSW operates as a two-tiered system consisting of the peak body, (NSWALC, including Zone Offices) and 120 Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALC).
