REF: DETcvs0521
  • Champion skills system reform aligned to job growth
  • Drive sector wide collaboration and innovation
  • Establish a new independent government authority

The Position
With a clear mandate for reform, the Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) is a new entity that will bring together data analysis, industry engagement and innovation to improve job pathways, transform the quality of vocational teaching and training and ensure a pipeline of skilled workers to drive economic growth in Victoria. The entity will be supported by an Advisory Board to provide timely independent expert advice.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will report to the Minister for Training and Skills on the performance of the agency. The CEO will establish the new organisation bringing credibility and values driven leadership, closely engaging with industry, education providers and regional stakeholders. An early key deliverable will be the inaugural Victorian Skills Plan to better guide Government investment in training delivery to where it is needed most.
The successful appointee will bring extensive experience and a demonstrated record of achievement leading, motivating, and developing teams in a medium or large organisation. A working knowledge of industry, vocational education and government drivers and policy settings is expected along with the capacity to implement and drive a contemporary and future-focused reform agenda. As an impactful leader, highly developed interpersonal skills, and a record of working collaboratively with multiple partners and stakeholders are critical foundations to success.

The Organisation
The VSA represents a stronger focus on local skills and training needs, working closely with stakeholders across the sector to broker relationships, drive collaboration and share expert advice to improve the training and skills sector within the scope of policy and funding settings established by Government.
The VSA will act as a champion of, and a voice for, the Victorian training and skills system, with the Department of Education and Training to continue to play a system oversight role with responsibility for policy, funding and market settings.
