The Position
The Chief Financial Officer of The Big Issue plays an integral role in leading the financial and accounting functions of the organisation. The position also oversees all financial requirements for Homes for Homes, a new social enterprise established by The Big Issue. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will drive a high quality, business-focussed finance and accounting function, providing effective financial management of The Big Issue’s resources through robust financial processes, controls and reporting.
Reporting to the CEO, the CFO leads a team of 4 and is responsible for all the day to day financial operations of the organisation, including accounting procedures, financial and management reporting, systems and processes, tax and regulatory requirements and internal financial controls. The CFO also partners with the Executive Team to provide strategic financial and commercial advice regarding the financial impact of business decisions. With the growth agenda of the Homes for Homes business, the CFO will play a key role in strategic planning for the future of the organisation.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and inclusive finance professional with experience in a similar role and a track record in the delivery of high-quality analysis and advice. You will be a qualified CA/CPA, with highly developed strategic and analytical skills and outstanding interpersonal communication. Previous CFO experience is not mandatory and aligned experience in a larger organisation will be well regarded. Experience in start-up or a growing organisations would be an advantage.

The Big Issue Australia is an independent community organisation that develops and operates social enterprises and creative, sustainable solutions to overcome poverty by providing opportunities for homeless, disadvantaged and marginalised people to positively change their lives.
These enterprises operate much like traditional businesses and all revenue goes towards further advancement of The Big Issue’s goals. They include The Big Issue Street Magazine Enterprise, the Women’s Subscription Enterprise, The Big Issue Classroom and The Big Idea amongst others.
