The ACT Health Directorate seeks to appoint a high calibre professional to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) role. The CMO will provide leadership and oversight of the Directorate’s clinical governance agenda, inclusive of quality and safety. They will work with state and territory jurisdictional peers around strategic issues affecting the health care workforce, specifically the medical professions, and nurture strong partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Reporting to the Deputy Director General, Policy and Transformation, the CMO is the principal reference point for informing strategic policy issues pertaining to the medical profession within the ACT. This is a key position for the provision of leadership and continuous improvement in clinical practice and models of care, professional development, education, teaching, and quality improvement activities. The CMO will provide advice and support to Ministers, the Director-General, ACT Health and other key stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be a highly credible leader and clinician, equipped with proven experience in interdisciplinary working and high level leadership and engagement skills. The appointee will demonstrate a patient and consumer focused approach to evidence-based care and an understanding of contemporary issues impacting the health of people in the ACT and surrounding areas. The CMO will have strong interpersonal, negotiation and written communication skills, combined with an open and approachable leadership style. In addition, they will demonstrate the capability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances in addition to the ability to act with integrity on sensitive matters. It will be a requirement to hold a relevant medical qualification within the profession and unconditional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
