The Position

St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney (SVHNS) seeks to appoint a high calibre professional to the role of Chief Medical Officer (CMO). They will provide leadership and strategic direction to medical staff, research and pathology services across SVHNS. The CMO also has a leadership role in clinical governance and clinical systems innovation, driving excellent and compassionate clinical care, research and education.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CMO will work closely with the Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Chief Research Officer, Medical Workforce Unit Manager and the other executives. They will foster excellence in patient outcomes and experiences through clinician leadership with a focus on clinician work satisfaction, clinician led research and evidence-based practice that serves the diverse SVHNS patient community. In addition, they will support the delivery of the SVHNS and SVHA priorities and work closely with the St Vincent’s Sydney Health Innovation Precinct partners to advance health outcomes for their communities.

The successful candidate will be a highly credible medical leader with well-defined experience in a public or private setting across a large metropolitan or regional health service. Equipped with strong relational and engagement skills, the appointee will demonstrate a patient and consumer focused approach to evidence-based care and an understanding of contemporary issues impacting clinical services, research and pathology services. Strong interpersonal, negotiation and written communication skills will combine with an open and approachable leadership style. The appointee will demonstrate the capability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances in addition to the ability to act with integrity. Through their collaborative approach, they will support the execution of organisational strategy related to medicine and research. Together with a mandatory MBBS or equivalent and current practicing registration with AHPRA, the successful candidate will have clinical relevance and have demonstrated engagement with research throughout their career.
