The Position
The Chief Metropolitan Surface Transport is responsible for every single journey made by all forms of surface transport in the metropolitan Melbourne area. This includes accountability for the largest tram network in the world as well as freeways, arterial roads and bus services. The role will articulate the transport narrative to the public and lead the strategic planning process of the metropolitan train services division.
Reporting to the Head of Transport Services, the successful candidate will lead the commercial, asset management and project delivery teams and provide high level authoritative advice on strategic and tactical strategies. A strong and visible leadership style is desired and the ability to create a culture of high performance in line with department values is required.
The successful candidate will have operated in a similar role within a large and complex transport, logistics or infrastructure environment and have an unparalleled ability to navigate the ever-changing public sector environment. Stakeholder management and the ability to influence and negotiate, with government as well as project delivery agencies, and transport operators, is key to success in this role. Commercial nous is highly valued and experience of managing high value contracts in demanding environments.
