Defence Science and Technology seeks an experienced and innovative executive to provide leadership and vision to shape the future of scientific research and client programs in the Maritime Division.

The Chief of Maritime Division is responsible directly to the Chief Defence Scientist for the leadership of all Maritime science and technology programs, and the delivery of scientific maritime capability requirements for the Royal Australian Navy and maritime elements of the Department of Defence. The Maritime Division comprises approximately 400 staff, with a footprint in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Rockingham.
With an important role in promoting and influencing the organisation and its people, the Chief of Division will be an inclusive and collaborative leader, respecting a diversity of ideas and perspectives. With an ability to solve complex problems, take calculated risks and reflect on performance, the successful candidate will be able to influence, negotiate and engender enthusiasm in others, demonstrating resilience, astute judgement and political awareness. Outstanding interpersonal skills will be key to building strong internal and external relationships.
A PhD in a relevant discipline, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and experience in a science, technology and/or research environment will be essential.
The remuneration package includes superannuation, executive vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for these positions may be negotiated with the successful candidates within the Chief of Division Grade 2 range.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the role, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen or intending to become one, and
  • assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance.
