The Position
St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) seeks to appoint a collaborative and proactive individual to the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Reporting to the CEO the position holds executive accountability for the leadership and management of the acute, sub-acute, residential care and mental health services across SVHM. Working closing with the CEO, executive colleagues and senior clinical leaders, the COO will drive and support the delivery of operational performance including high quality care, financial and activity outcomes.
The COO is a key member of the Executive Team and will provide operational expertise to ensure efficient utilisation of resources across the health service. The COO will be a values driven leader, and will provide executive contribution to the organisational strategic direction while driving business development opportunities and creating a culture of teaching, training, research, and continuous improvement. The position will lead a team focussed on the delivery of excellence in patient care and outcomes, developing and implementing actions to support best practice services.
The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive executive level operational experience in complex public sector environments, including hospitals, with a track record of service delivery and results. Knowledge and understanding of customer/patient flow and safety will be essential, with a clinical background highly regarded. The appointee will provide strong and effective leadership to staff, while enhancing a culture that supports quality patient care, financial responsibility and continuous improvement. The appointee will possess well developed negotiation, networking and conflict resolution skills combined with the capability to identify opportunities to work differently. Presenting with an innovative mindset, the appointee will demonstrate strong influencing and change management skills. A proven ability to lead, build and deliver outstanding performance will be critical to success.
The Organisation
St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne is a not-for profit provider of public tertiary health services. Over 7,500 dedicated staff work across 16 sites to provide a range of services, including acute medical and surgical services, emergency and critical care, aged care, diagnostics, rehabilitation, allied health, mental health, palliative care, and residential care.
