The Position
Queenwood seeks to appoint an innovative and dynamic leader to the position of Chief Operations and Finance Officer (COFO). Working closely with the Council, the Principal, and the Executive Team, the COFO will provide the essential business and operational support necessary for the School to deliver educational programs of the highest quality.
This pivotal role entails comprehensive leadership and management responsibilities across the School’s commercial activities, financial management, investments, contracts, technology, facilities, and capital works in line with the strategic plan. Reporting directly to the Principal, the COFO will also report to the Chair of Council in their capacity as Company Secretary and work closely with the Council Treasurer.
The successful candidate will develop and lead teams in Finance, IT, and Operations, and will work collaboratively with the School’s Executive Team. The COFO will contribute strategic, commercial, and project oversight expertise for the School’s capital works development while ensuring impeccable financial management and smooth day-to-day operations.
Recognised as an excellent people manager and leader, the ideal candidate will exhibit a strong background in financial management, strategic insight, and commercial acumen. With demonstrated expertise in managing comprehensive business operations, the appointee will ensure a contemporary approach that maximises opportunities and value for the School. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills are essential, ensuring the COFO maintains a strong and visible presence within the School community.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong professional network, experience in complex stakeholder environments, and the ability to influence change. Key to success in this position will be the development of authentic and collaborative relationships to build and enhance the School’s public profile.
As the School embarks upon major capital projects, the COFO will provide support to the Principal and Council from the development phase through to delivery and operation. The COFO will ensure the Operations and Finance Team adheres to the highest standards of financial reporting and management, promoting good decision-making and efficient use of resources through user-friendly systems, processes, and reporting.
The Organisation
Queenwood was established as an independent, non-denominational Christian school in 1925. Its founders were women who were dedicated to the education of girls and young women, and equipping them for effective, purposeful, and fulfilling lives. The School’s motto, Per Aspera ad Astra (Through Struggles to the Stars), encapsulates our conviction that which is worthwhile is only achieved through courage, hard work, and patience.
Today the School offers a strong academic curriculum Kindergarten – 12, within a broad and balanced program of co-curricular activities. With approximately 900 students from Kindergarten – Year 12, it provides a broad range of subjects and programs in a personalised environment, where each girl is individually known. Queenwood students consistently achieve highly in public examinations, and in a wide variety of co-curricular activities.
