Committee Members – Victorian African Communities Committee

The Organisation
The Victorian Government is excited to announce the opening of applications to join the Victorian African Communities Committee (VACC). The VACC is a new Committee that will provide advice to the Victorian Government on issues that impact African communities across Victoria.
The Minister for Multicultural Affairs welcomes expressions of interest for up to 12 community Committee Members of the VACC.
The VACC will inform the design and delivery of initiatives under the Victorian African Communities Action Plan (VACAP). The Action Plan aims to improve outcomes for all Victorians of African heritage by responding to the specific needs of Victoria’s diverse African communities.
The VACC will build on the work of the VACAP Implementation Committee (convened between 2018-2022), which oversaw the implementation of a range of successful VACAP initiatives.
Applications from passionate individuals of African heritage who bring a diverse range of lived experience, skills and expertise are encouraged to ensure the Committee reflects the diversity of Victoria’s African Communities. As a Committee Member, you will play an important role in ensuring that community voice is at the centre of policy and program implementation.
The term of appointment will be up to a period of two years from September 2022. The Committee will meet at least four (4) times a year. Appointed members will receive remuneration in accordance with the Victorian Government’s Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines 2019.
The position
The role of VACC members will be to:

• Represent the diverse views and experiences of Victorians of African heritage
• Provide advice to the Victorian Government on issues that are relevant and important to Victoria’s African communities
• Act as a conduit and liaison between community members and the Victorian Government
• Maintain an understanding of the current and emerging issues facing Victorians of African heritage in Victoria and provide advice on how these issues might be addressed
• Utilise and build upon their transferable skills in a range of areas
• Guide the implementation of initiatives under the Victorian African Communities Action Plan 2018-2028
• Preparing for, attending and actively participating in VACC meetings in a respectful and considered manner
• Review and provide feedback on documents produced by the Secretariat, or other Victorian departments.
