  • Outstanding opportunity for a strategic leader
  • Lead a globally ranked Business School in the capital city
  • New Zealand’s number one ranked university for research quality (PBRF 2018)

Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is ranked as New Zealand’s leading university for research quality. Our vision is to be a world-leading capital city university and one of the great global-civic universities. Our iho, or essence, is as a global-civic university with our marae at our heart.
Following the recent establishment of the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of Government, Law and Business, we are seeking an innovative and entrepreneurial academic to be appointed to the position of Amo ÅŒrauariki – Dean, Wellington School of Business and Government. This newly created leadership role will provide strategic direction and academic oversight of the research, teaching, civic engagement and external engagement for the Wellington School of Business and Government (WSBG) which is among just 1% of business schools worldwide to hold the ‘Triple Crown’ of international accreditations (AACSB; EQUIS and AMBA).
Along with a doctoral or postgraduate qualification, you will have an outstanding record of scholarly achievement and a successful track record of effective engagement with business and government leaders. Reporting to the PVC and as a member of the Faculty Leadership Team, your ability to inspire, motivate and influence staff through a time of transformation, while enhancing the collegial culture and building high performing teams, will ensure success in this role.
You will be able to lead strategically and demonstrate a resilient and flexible approach in a fiscally constrained and highly competitive context where innovative thinking will be required to grow revenue, student numbers and programmes. You will demonstrate an ability to further academic excellence and recognition for WSBG in national and international rankings. With the University’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, your ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and the Te Tiriti o Waitangi/Treaty of Waitangi obligations will be essential. While academic experience will be highly valued in these appointments, candidates with an appropriate background will be considered.
As a capital city business school, Wellington School of Business and Government is embedded in the heart of New Zealand’s centre of digital innovation, entrepreneurship, policymaking, and creativity. Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington was first-ranked among New Zealand universities in the 2012 and 2018 round of the Performance-Based Research Fund (PBRF) for research intensity.
