The University is seeking an exceptional individual as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research who, working collaboratively with the Vice-Chancellor, will strategically lead the University’s Research and Enterprise office; drive research excellence and performance, increase research funding, maximise commercialisation opportunities and align new research initiatives with the University’s strategy and government funding priorities.
You will hold a PhD and demonstrate an international research record and credibility with impact on relevant academic research frontiers and policy areas.  Comprehensive knowledge of the tertiary sector and its politics, and previous strategic leadership experience of a complex and challenging research portfolio at the level of a Faculty Dean or Director of a major research Institute or equivalent are required.
You will have proven successful operational leadership and management experience at a senior level, sound financial acumen and the creativity and flexibility to lead innovative thinking around research in a challenging political and financial environment. A strong record of external engagement and outstanding interpersonal skills, having successfully led high-performing individuals and teams, will be important. With strong personal and professional credibility, you will be on an upward trajectory in your career and will be able to inspire others across the University to achieve the highest standards of research excellence.  Visionary and bold in your thinking you will be committed to leading the research portfolio of the University of Waikato to a level of national research leadership and international standing.
