An outstanding leadership opportunity exists at James Cook University to drive change and make an impact in the tropics and beyond as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Tropical Environments and Societies). The Division of Tropical Environments and Societies delivers excellence through teaching, learning and research across the three Colleges of Arts, Society and Education; Business, Law and Governance; and Science and Engineering.
With line management of College Deans, this key role ensures the achievement of core operational and strategic goals, while delivering and maintaining high quality academic outcomes and research.
Reporting to the Provost and as a member of the University Executive and the Vice-Chancellor’s Advisory Committee, the DVC occupies a senior leadership role and is expected to be involved in all aspects of University planning, taking a leading role in supporting and promoting the objectives and values of JCU, actively contributing to the University’s broader decision making, vision, policy and development.
With outstanding leadership skills and a collaborative mindset, the DVC will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline, with significant evidence of academic leadership. With high level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, the ideal candidate will bring an ability to foster effective relationships with a range of stakeholders and a clear understanding of the wider business and political context within which the Division operates.
