The Position
RAND Corporation is uniquely positioned as an independent, nonpartisan research organisation and seeks to appoint an experienced researcher and engaging leader as Director RAND Australia to expand its portfolio for Australian clients at the Commonwealth and state levels. The appointee  will focus on delivering high-quality research on a range of Australian public policy issues and disseminating RAND research findings to Australian public policy  communities.
Based in Canberra and reporting to the Vice President, International of RAND Corporation (located in the U.S), the Director will initially lead a team of seven research and professional staff and will serve on the Board of Directors for RAND Australia. The Director should be prepared to grow the organisation by roughly doubling staff and revenue over the next two years.
With either a Ph.D. or a Master’s qualification in a policy-relevant field, the ideal candidate will bring strong experience in developing and leading policy related research projects in either the national security or socioeconomic policy realms. An internationally recognised research publication record is essential for this position. In order to grow RAND Australia’s research profile, the Director must demonstrate previous success in driving policy research business development and marketing strategies.
The Director will also require senior level operational management skills, be comfortable leading in a highly collaborative environment, and will be expected to uphold RAND’s core values of quality and objectivity whilst maintaining an unwavering commitment to integrity and ethical behaviour. A leader who is comfortable working in an international context, has skills in mentoring staff, and who possesses sophisticated interpersonal skills will  be well-suited to this position. The appointee should be experienced in leading and motivating high performing multi-disciplinary global teams and possess the ability to deliver outcomes in a complex and dynamic environment. Ability to secure an Australian security clearance at the Positive Vetting level is required.
