The organisation
The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership, designed in response to Victoria’s unique system context, is a distinct specialist entity dedicated to developing teaching and school leadership excellence, and raising the calibre and status of the entire Victorian teaching profession through the provision of specialised professional learning.
Building on the strong foundations of the Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership and with a new focus on professional learning for Victoria’s highly skilled teachers, the Academy’s operations have commenced delivery of new programs, including the flagship Teaching Excellence Program.
The position
The Director, Academy Services leads a range of specialist services to empower consistent quality management and ensure high quality professional learning and an engaging and seamless participant experience.  This includes providing oversight of specialists in learning design, data, evaluation and evidence, flowing through to communications and public advocacy.
Reporting to, and working closely with, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director will provide leadership to a multi-disciplinary team with responsibility for the Evaluation and Evidence Centre, driving an evidence-based approach to professional learning.  The role will also oversee collaboration with a range of stakeholders to identify the needs of the teaching profession, supporting program design and delivery and providing thought leadership to inform advice to the Secretary and Minister regarding system and policy reform.
Strategically minded, the ideal candidate will bring experience in leading the development, implementation, evaluation and enhancement of contextually informed, evidence-based programs and policies to maximise engagement, attendance and professional learning.  Outstanding communication skills are required to lead and engage widely, and work within governance frameworks to promote accountability, ethical processes and compliance.  Experience in program and project management will be important, with the ability to drive a strategic approach and provide high level advice and feedback.  This includes working with a CRM and providing leadership to marketing and communications across the lifecycle of a project.
The ideal candidate will be motivated to drive change and improvements in school leadership and teaching, which will ultimately result in delivering outcomes for all Victorian children and their communities.  The Director will demonstrate a passion for the vision of the Academy and an alignment with the Victorian public sector values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
