The Positions
The Department is seeking to appoint two outstanding leaders to the positions of Director, Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing (EO2), and Assistant Director, Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing (EO3). The Director and Assistant Director will operate in the Health and Wellbeing division supporting indigenous communities in Victoria and will work in partnership to achieve better health, wellbeing, and economic development outcomes, whilst recognising significant cultural and heritage values.
Reporting to the Deputy Secretary, Community Participation, Health and Wellbeing, the Director, Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing will strategically lead the delivery of Aboriginal health, wellbeing and safety to ensure improved outcomes, and drive the establishment of strategic connections with key stakeholders. The Director will provide leadership in embedding self-determination in the department’s activities, notably through the implementation of a new Aboriginal Health, Wellbeing and Safety Strategic Plan and aligned strategies. The Assistant Director will report to the Director, Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing and provide management support in relation to people, budget and business planning, as well as lead the Strategic Projects, and Implementation and Coordination teams.
You will have sound strategic leadership experience in the public, community or private sectors, with a particular focus on improving quality of life of the indigenous community. With an ability to manage complex and far ranging challenges, appointees will offer expertise and diplomacy while working on sensitive issues to engage stakeholder groups and facilitate change. Demonstrating highly effective policy development capability and a strong affinity for a broad range of matters pertaining to indigenous people, you will offer an inspiring and committed approach to build cultural competency, as well as leverage solutions and enhance health and wellbeing outcomes.
The Organisation
The Health and Wellbeing division of the Department is responsible for whole of health and wellbeing strategic priorities, including, the provision of leadership on policy, strategy and recommissioning of services in Victoria’s primary prevention, secondary and tertiary healthcare system.
The Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing branch works across the department and in partnership with Aboriginal organisations and universal services to promote and deliver lasting Aboriginal health and wellbeing outcomes and facilitate the transition to self-determination for Aboriginal organisations and communities.
