The Position
The City of Melbourne is seeking to appoint a contemporary and collaborative leader to the pivotal role of Director City Strategy and Place. The City Strategy and Place Group has five business areas being Urban Strategy, Placemaking and Engagement, Urban Sustainability, Smart City Office, and Improvement and Program Integration.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and as a key member of the Executive Leadership team, this position works collaboratively across the organisation to deliver shared outcomes and drive organisational priorities. Central to this role is strong collaboration with Councillors and the position is also instrumental in enriching and expanding existing relationships with all levels of government through a sound understanding of strategic policy directions.
The successful candidate will be a contemporary leader with the ability to drive change from a business and people perspective. With a focus on driving an improvement agenda for the organisation and the City, the Director will have a track record of developing and meeting strategic, operational and budgetary objectives, coupled with demonstrated leadership in a multi-faceted, complex environment. Excellent communication skills, a capacity to foster sustainable partnerships and a track record of delivering outcomes involving multiple stakeholders are mandatory.
The Director City Strategy and Place is an exceptional strategic thinker with proven leadership and commercial astuteness with a track record in leading change within a complex, political and high-profile organisation. With strong commercial acumen the Director will have proven financial, governance, asset and program management experience with a commitment to building a positive organisational culture. Tertiary qualification(s) in planning policy, urban design or business management disciplines will be well regarded.
