The Position

St Michael’s Grammar School seeks to appoint a Director of Advancement. This is a pivotal senior leadership position with a key focus on implementing the approved Philanthropy strategy and developing a culture of philanthropy within the School community. Additionally, the role will engage with and inspire the broader school community by building strong relationships with all stakeholders.

Reporting to the Head of School, and a member of the School Leadership Team, the appointee will lead the School’s philanthropic initiatives to support future growth and sustainability of the School, strengthening the School’s reputation and level of engagement across the community. The Director will lead the successful development and delivery of Annual Giving, Bequests, Major Gifts and Capital fundraising.

The successful candidate will lead a team with the responsibility of identifying and pursuing new partnership opportunities, ensuring the values, ethos and philosophy of St Michael are apparent in all endeavours. Working closely with Advancement team members, School staff and volunteers, the Director will manage existing relationships with donors, manage the development and expansion of the philanthropic pipeline and ensure the broader School community is positively engaged.

Regarded as an excellent people manager and leader, the ideal candidate will exhibit a strong background in managing comprehensive philanthropic programs gained in an education, health or not-for-profit environment. With demonstrated financial management skills, including the ability to manage large budgets, the appointee will be a creative and critical thinker who is able to drive an agenda of innovation. With exceptional communication, interpersonal and advocacy skills, the appointee will maintain a strong and visible presence within the School, ensuring the Director is known and recognised as a credible source of information and a prominent member of the School community.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong professional network, experience in complex stakeholder environments and the ability to influence change.  Key to success in this position will be the development of authentic and collaborative relationships to build and enhance the public profile of the School.
