The Position
The Office for Research at The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) oversees all aspects of research across clinical specialities.  The Office for Research directs the institutional research ethics and governance processes and provides support, advocacy and advice to empower and enable researchers. At RMH, excellence in clinical care is underpinned by a culture of research engagement and innovation and it is this culture that supports academic clinicians to lead advances in health, medical science and implement clinical practice at the leading edge of these developments.
The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) seeks to appoint a Director, Research and Governance and Ethics, who will provide leadership to the Office of Research and will drive the efficient and effective management of research at RMH. The Director will support the delivery of the RMH Research Strategy and provide both strategic and operational management of all research activities across RMH.
Bringing expertise in research governance and ethics, the Director will guide and support RMH research staff to provide advice in relation to ethics applications, collaborative research and agreements, have oversight of the Clinical Trials Centre and ensure operational responsibility within a framework of ethical, regulatory, and legislative compliance.
The successful incumbent will be a strategic and inspirational leader within the management of ethics and governance of clinical research in Australia.  A strong understanding of the application and interpretation of Australian research regulations, legislation and international good clinical practice guidelines will be essential for the success of this role.  A high level of external stakeholder experience and the ability to build inter-organisational networks to facilitate state-wide and national research governance and ethics initiatives will be key, as will expertise in and knowledge of research funding opportunities and processes. Innovation, adaptability, resilience and a focus on continuous improvement will be attributes that will contribute to the success of the Director.  A PhD or equivalent in Health Sciences or a related field will be highly desirable.
