  • A leading educational role shaping change
  • Works in genuine partnership with Indigenous people
  • Drives excellence in the delivery of the unique Studio School model of education

The Position

The Director of Schools is a senior operational management role responsible for the quality delivery and continuous improvement of the studio school model of education and its consistency across all studio schools.

The Director provides line management support to each Principal in the system to lead and manage their school. The Director will work with each Principal to ensure evidence-based decision-making is focused on improving student progress and achievement.

The successful candidate will spend significant time with individual principals and Indigenous community members to gain a deep understanding of the Studio School partnership model of education. SSA works in conjunction with the Indigenous Education and Research Centre IERC, develops teachers and engages in research for continuous improvement in partnership with the local Indigenous community.

The Director of Schools must have a robust knowledge of the education sector, its nature and specialisations to identify learning opportunities that will increase the quality of learning. The Director of Schools is a leading educator with strong interest in and practical experience of Indigenous Australia in regional and remote communities, recognising the talents and cultural gifts that Indigenous students and families bring to school.

There is flexibility regarding location and support for travel to meet the requirements of this position.

The Organisation

Studio Schools of Australia (SSA) was established in 2019 to bring about a “system” level change in secondary education for Indigenous students in remote communities across northern Australia. This “system level” reform is based on well-established evidence of what works for Indigenous students, their families and communities, in a scalable, proven work-related model of education introduced at the Yiramalay / Wesley Studio School in the Kimberley, Western Australia, in 2010.

SSA’s mission is to enable Indigenous students to lead their own advancement and to take a valuable and meaningful place in their own communities and within Australia.
