The Victorian Auditor-General’s Office (VAGO) is part of Victoria’s integrity system and informs the Parliament and Victorians about the performance of the public sector and how to improve public services.

The Parliamentary Reports and Services Division (PRS) of the organisation, led by the Assistant Auditor-General, was established last year with a 7-person executive leadership team in place from September 2023. We are now adding two new positions to that leadership team and filling a recent vacancy.

There are approximately 75 staff in the Division which brings together the areas of strategic audit planning, performance audit, data science, and communications and publishing into seven branches:

  1. Economy and Infrastructure
  2. Education and Justice
  3. Environment and Planning
  4. Health and Families
  5. Local government and Whole of Government
  6. Impact, Planning and Data
  7. Professional Practice and Development.

Each branch is headed up by a Director who is supported by a team of Senior Managers.

We are interested in people from diverse backgrounds. You may come from auditing, consulting, public policy, service delivery across the public or private sector, or the not-for-profit sector. We also welcome a broad range of qualifications such as accounting, arts, economics, law, science, statistics and so on.

You will be committed to professional excellence, and the delivery of high-quality work, within budget and on time. You understand that VAGO’s work must be precise and accurate, and are comfortable with your work being subject to vigorous scrutiny and challenge. You enjoy working with data and write well. You will have a reputation for being values led, ethical and with unwavering integrity.

VAGO offers a hybrid work environment where you choose what best suits your needs as well as the most appropriate mode for the work you’re doing. That generally translates to a combination of working from home, spending a day in the office or going in for regular Division meetings and workshops, and visiting stakeholders, auditees or attending site visits. We provide you with a comprehensive best-practice office set-up for your home. When you work in the office at 35 Collins St, Melbourne, you will find an energy-efficient space in a city centre location with great views, activity-based working zones, secure bike storage, change rooms, lockers and easy access to transport and parking.

Successful candidates will be placed within the Division according to best fit of skills, experience and operational needs.

Job share arrangements will be considered.

Please review the comprehensive information pack and read the case studies on the VAGO website before making your application.
