  • Drive the delivery of integrated health care services
  • Manage a significant programme of change
  • Achieve excellence through collaboration

The Position
In 2020 the DHHS established three Metropolitan Clusters to assist in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Post COVID-19 wave 2, the Clusters have expanded their role in the support of integrated health care services.  The West Metro Cluster now seeks to appoint an Executive Director to lead the work of the Cluster ensuring it achieves its ambition to deliver services across the cluster organisations in a range of clinical areas.
The Executive Director is a new position and will be employed by The Royal Melbourne Hospital and report to the West Metro Cluster chair, whilst also having a line to the other CEOs.  The position will manage the overall Cluster design, scope, budget, schedule, quality and relationships with internal and external partners.  Additionally, the Executive Director will lead the development of a change management strategy aimed at increasing capacity for change over time, ensure strong financial management is maintained and ensure clear communication on status and progress of projects.
Presenting with a strong health care background, the appointee will require strong leadership and stakeholder management skills to ensure establishment and implementation activities related to the Cluster are completed and appropriate governance is maintained.  The appointee will be skilled at engaging with senior leaders (including CEOs and COOs) and managing the input of multiple stakeholders.  The ability to work in an ambiguous environment is essential, combined with the capability to deliver on reform activities and extend beyond what was once considered possible.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate high level project management skills, will provide evidence of success in operating a significant project and demonstrate leadership experience in building and maintaining high performing teams.  The ability to maintain appropriate governance protocols across the cluster while also delivering on strategy is essential.
The Organisation
The West Metro Cluster comprises: The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Western Health, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women’s Hospital, the Royal Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospitals Victoria, Djerriwarrh Health Service and North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network.  The Cluster members deliver services in areas such as home-based care, virtual care and will deliver equitable access to elective surgery as well as deferred care such as cancer care resulting from the impact of the pandemic.
