The Position

The Executive Manager of the Council & CEO is responsible for providing the highest levels of expert governance support for internal operations and the Mayor and Councillors to ensure legislative requirements are met. The role also acts as the coordinator of Council’s relationships with State Government ministerial offices, state bodies and authorities, inspectorates and Council’s Audit and Risk Committee.

This is an outstanding opportunity to be a key contributor to building a leading, modern and open organisation that delivers a robust strategic plan to support Council’s ambitions.  This role is part of the executive leadership team and will lead on the development of  best practice governance mechanisms and capabilities to ensure effective support, decision-making and leadership of elected officials.

The successful candidate will have a reputation for the highest levels of integrity and the ability to translate governance and risk requirements to different audiences. With a track record of leadership in a complex governance and legislative setting, you will have outstanding communication and negotiation skills and be a resilient, collaborative leader who thrives in developing internal and external relationships through authentic partnering and positive influence.

An appropriate tertiary qualification, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and/or experience is essential.
